Artist's Statement

As a mentally ill artist, I use painting and drawing as ways to cope with the realities of my day-to-day existence. Pushing paint around on canvas allows me to enter a world over which I have complete control. Creating art distracts me from the paranoia and hallucinations which, unfortunately, are very common.

Art, especially abstract art, requires a lot of brain power to create. When I draw or paint my mind is focused on the work at hand and I don't think about any of the negative things that tend to enter my head when I'm not otherwise engaged. Art is at least as important as medication.
